Y10 Business Day

Our Y10 students were treated to something a little different today, when they took part in a specially designed Business Day.

Normal lessons were paused, their school uniform was left at home and instead they were invited to wear professional dress and look upon themselves not as students but as young professionals for the day.

Students listened to a keynote speech, took part in workshops and Q&A's led by industry professionals and finished the day by participating in a CV building workshop.

The aim of the day was to give our students an early insight into the professional world that lies in wait once they finish their education. We hope that this experience will open their eyes to the multitude of industries that exist, the various job opportunities these worlds create, and perhaps most importantly, the hard work, dedication and determination that is required in order to be successful.

Our keynote speaker was Fran Millar, recently appointed CEO of Belstaff, a British heritage clothing brand company. She is perhaps most well known for the huge role she has played in the success of British cycling, working alongside Sir Dave Brailsford for over a decade to help build Team SKY (now called INEOS Grenadiers) from the bottom up, helping them to become one of the most successful teams in British sport. Her responsibilities included overseeing the team’s marketing and communications strategy, stakeholder management, and all the commercial and legal aspects that come with running the world’s number one cycling team. Prior to working at Team Sky, Fran set up and ran her own successful athlete and event management agency for 7 years. Initially, she represented her brother, going on to represent some of the UK’s highest-profile cyclists including Mark Cavendish and Geraint Thomas.

Other eight workshop leaders were Dr Wilson-Jeffers, a foundation doctor with clinical interests in neurosurgery, paediatrics and holistic medicine. Joe Scott, director of ACS Building Contractors. Daniel Lorimer, experienced Senior Development Producer at LADbible, with expertise in developing and making successful content for traditional and digital media. Ross McKinnon, Senior Consultant Manager at London's leading recruitment agency for teachers. Callum Rimmer, entrepreneur and founder of ByMiles insurance company plus enterprise software consultant to companies including Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Orange and Tesco. Tara Lanigan, Director of Europe Communications for a large pharmaceutical company. Kathleen Brooks, founder of Minerva Analysis and non executive director or male focused cosmetics company, ALTR London. Plus, our very own Ms N Ahmad a graduate in pharmaceutical chemistry - now a secondary school science teacher at All Saints. She had worked on drug design and drug efficacy for her final thesis and the drug she was researching is now a FDA approved treatment for Alzheimer’s.

Our students had a fantastic day, and left inspired and enthused, having learned a little more about the world of business.

On behalf of our Y10 students, we would like to thank Fran Millar and all our guest speakers for taking the time to come in and inspire the students of All Saints Catholic College today.
