  • Grenfell Memorial Day

On 14th June our school community paid respects to those who tragically lost their lives in the Grenfell disaster. Over the course of the last week our Chaplain, Therese and Ms Mealy have been busy creating our memorial garden with 72 stones with the names of all those who lost their lives. We were delighted that the Rt Hon Nick Hurd MP, the minister for Grenfell victims, came to open our garden which was blessed by our parish priest Fr Peter. Kathleen Williams, Executive Headteacher of St Francis of Assisi Primary school also joined us to remember the solidarity that was forged between our two schools. In addition we were joined by Andrew Tagg from the local authority, who have been highly supportive of the All Saints community since Grenfell. In the afternoon, we gathered as a whole school community for a beautiful Mass celebrated by Fr Peter. Fr Peter's sermon was extremely poignant and reminded us all of the value of human life but also, in times of tragedy, the need for abundant human kindness. Our school choir, led by Ms Wilkinson and the school band sang beautifully, especially the post-communion Taize chant, Ubi Caritas. Earlier on this week, Mrs Smith and our site team re-decorated our school Chapel with green drapes that will stay in place over the next two weeks as a mark of respect for those who died in Grenfell. The Chapel will be available for all of our students to pray and also sign our book of condolences.
