VE Day: 80Years – A Moment to Remember

Thursday 8 May 2025 marks 80 years since VE Day (Victory in Europe Day), the historic moment when the Second World War came to an end in Europe.

On this day in 1945, after years of conflict, the long-awaited announcement of peace led to spontaneous celebrations across the country. A national holiday was declared and people of all ages and backgrounds came together to rejoice in the streets, united by hope for a better future.

This 80th anniversary is a time for the nation to come together to learn and reflect on the stories of those who lived through the war — from the servicemen and women who fought, to children who were evacuated, and the women who kept the country running on the home front.

To mark this significant milestone, VE Day 80 events and activities are taking place across the UK.

For pupils who would like to learn more, Our Shared Story offers a collection of educational resources to help young people engage with both VE and VJ Day commemorations, inside and outside the classroom.👉 Click here to learn more

Let’s take this opportunity to remember, learn, and honour the legacy of the VE Day generation.
