  • Mr O'Neill is the HEADTEACHER OF THE YEAR in a Secondary School

Students at All Saints Catholic College are no strangers to seeing camera crews dotted around the school, owing to our very own TV channel - 'All Saints TV'. However, a sense of intrigue spread up and down the corridors on Monday 14th November as a second film crew were spotted shooting footage. Those cameras belonged to the BBC, who had paid us a visit in order to film a special segment for their flagship evening programme, 'The One Show'. Throughout the day, speculation mounted as to why the BBC cameras had chosen to spend a day with us. Afterall, it's not every day that this happens. Rumours began to swirl around the school that they were here to surprise a member of staff with some exciting news, but who was that member of staff and what was the big secret they were so determined to keep under wraps? Anyone lucky enough to be in the room for the announcement was sworn to secrecy and vowed not to speak about what they had been a part of until the episode had been broadcast. On Friday 25th November it was time for that secret to be shared with the world, and so at 7:00pm staff, students and parents all tuned in to BBC1 to see All Saints Catholic College take pride of place on 'The One Show' and watch Mr O'Neill discover that he had been named Headteacher of the Year in a Secondary School at the Pearson National Teaching Awards. Having been named as a Silver Winner earlier this year, Mr O'Neill knew that he was in the running to scoop the overall prize. However, the look on his face when he was told he was the Gold Award winner, in front of an ecstatic group of Year 7 students in our very own version of 'The One Show' studio, clearly showed that this was a huge surprise and that the secret had been superbly kept. Mission accomplished for all those who were in the know. The Pearson National Teaching Awards are the 'Oscars' of the teaching profession, and this is a wonderful achievement for Mr O'Neill, testament to the incredible journey All Saints Catholic College has been on since he became Headteacher. On behalf of everyone associated with All Saints Catholic College, congratulations Mr O'Neill. WATCH below to see the moment that Mr O'Neill discovered the news.

The inspection judgements were as follows: Overall Effectiveness: Outstanding Quality of Education: Outstanding Behaviour and Attitudes: Outstanding Personal Development: Outstanding Leadership & Management: Outstanding The full report can be downloaded and read below. • National Teaching Awards - Silver Winner

Thursday 26th May 2022 was an important day at All Saints, as we joined schools up and down the country in celebrating National Thank a Teacher Day. A day on which school communities come together to celebrate the professionalism, passion and commitment of our schools. The Thank a Teacher campaign recognises all staff working in schools; school leaders, teachers, teaching assistants and all support staff such as lunchtime supervisors, caretakers and cleaners. All Saints staff were touched at the vast number of thoughtful words, cards and gifts that students sent their way. But there was a second cause for celebration as staff and invited guests gathered together in the Rome building to celebrate a very important achievement for our Headteacher, Mr O'Neill. We're delighted to announce that Mr O'Neill has been named a SILVER WINNER in the category of Headteacher of the Year in a Secondary School at the Pearson National Teaching Awards. The Pearson National Teaching Awards are the 'Oscars' of the teaching profession and this is a tremendous achievement, testament to the incredible journey All Saints Catholic College has been on since Mr O'Neill became Headteacher when the school was Sion Manning. Furthermore, it means that he is in the running to scoop the overall prize - the GOLD AWARD at the Pearson National Teaching Awards UK ceremony to be held in November. Congratulations Mr O'Neill.

  • Christmas Carol Service

On Wednesday 8th December we held our annual Christmas Carol Service in our local church, St Pius X. We had intended to invite parents and carers to join us but following recent changes to Government guidance, we were forced to limit numbers to just students and teachers. Our Carol Service takes the traditional format of lessons (readings) and carols and is based on the world famous carol service of Kings College, Cambridge. You'll hear all your favourite carols, including Hark The Herald, O Come All Ye Faithful and Silent Night. You will also have the opportunity to listen to our Schola Cantorum. Attached below is an order of service for you to read and sing along at home. A big thankyou to our Priest, Fr Fergal Maguire plus Ms Mealy and Mr Sunny for all their assistance with the liturgy. Thankyou also to our Schola Members: Emelia, Katerina, Jay, Dinis, Mia, Paige, Tommaso, Claudia, Naveyah, Noah, Troy, Oliver, Carlota, Victor, Carlo, Victoria, Daniel, Ruth, Mael, Joseph, Gustavo, Charmaine and Maria. • Festive Fun

The end of term at All Saints has been packed full with fun, laughter and Christmas cheer. Students and teachers have come together as one community to eat, laugh and share in glory of Christ's birth. Earlier in the week our Student Council and Student Leadership Team hosted #TinselTuesday - an afternoon of fun, festive student led extra curricular activities. Students were offered the opportunity to sign up and participate in one of two workshops: Christmas tree decoration with Ms Nicholls and Christmas biscuit/cake decoration with Ms Obikoya. As you'll see from the results below, our students had a wonderful time and produced some impressive results. A huge thankyou to Ms Nicholls and Ms Obikoya for hosting the sessions and to our Student Council and Student Leadership Team who did all of the organising. We look forward to seeing what you will come up with next. On Thursday we treated all students to a complimentary Christmas Dinner, complete with Christmas crackers, party hats, songs, and prizes. Students were invited down to the hall in their year groups, and ate as a form with their form tutor. Everyone enjoyed tucking into turkey with all the trimmings, cooked to perfection by our kitchen staff and delivered to the dinner table by members of our teaching staff. When students weren't feasting they were tuning in to an extra special Christmas edition of "Good Morning All Saints" on our You Tube channel 'All Saints TV'. It gave them a glimpse of what their peers have been getting up to in the build up to Christmas, an insightful interview with Mr O'Neill where he tested his subject knowledge and answered their previously submitted questions, and last but not least a surprise visit from Santa Claus! If you want to watch at home, you can do so below. Don't forget to like and subscribe! Last but not least, the school year was rounded off with everyone's favourite annual tradition - the Staff Pantomime. This year we presented "Snow White" - written and directed by Mr Holland. Students watched with their year group and judging by the raucous laughter, thoroughly enjoyed watching their teachers transform from form tutors and Heads of Year into Kings, Queens and magical mirrors. They particularly seemed to enjoy watching their teachers make total fools of themselves. Students left with huge smiles on their faces and as a school community we finished the school year on a high. We're already looking forward to welcoming you back in 2022.

  • Christmas Hampers

Traditionally, one of the great highlights of the All Saints festive calendar is the Senior Citizens Christmas Party. Unfortunately, just like last year we were forced to cancel this years event due to concerns over Covid-19. Last year, rather than being deterred, we took the party to the people and headed out into the community armed with hampers, Christmas carols and festive cheer to bring joy to those who need it most. This gesture was warmly received, with one resident writing to us to say: "Last year your carol singers brought tears to my ears, it was so beautiful and unexpected...in fact it made my Christmas. I do hope to see you again this year." With feedback like that it seemed only appropriate that we should do the same thing again this year, and we set off to bring some Christmas cheer into the local community. We hand delivered 24 hampers in total, one for every form in the school. We did so in conjunction with Age UK, one of our house charities, who look after elderly people who are living alone or experiencing social isolation. Students and parents were generous as ever in their donations, with hampers being delivered packed to the brim with delicious treats such as wine, biscuits, Christmas puddings and mince pies, plus practical items like hot water bottles and blankets. These goodies were wrapped up and presented in beautiful homemade hampers, each containing a hand written card from the form group that had donated them. Just like last year, the hampers and the carols were warmly received, with many residents contacting the school to express their gratitude. Below are some of their comments. 'The Carol singers made our day.' 'That was absolutely lovely. I'm over the moon. Thankyou.' 'I loved the carols, I'm very grateful for your visit.' 'Thanks a million.' 'A big thankyou to all the girls and the two gentlemen who were so polite.' 'I loved all goodies in the hampers and the throws will keep me toasty and warm. Thankyou.' 'A big thankyou to all those who helped and to Andrew for allowing this to happen.' For many Christmas can be a magical time; a time spent surrounded by family and loved ones, filled with laughter and joy. However, it can also be a difficult time, particularly for those who experience loneliness or anyone forced to spend the holidays alone. It is a time when we can become guilty of focusing too much on what we hope to receive, rather than asking what it is that we can give. Joy filled acts of generosity like this one, serve as a timely reminder to our students of the true meaning of Christmas and the power of giving. It allows them to see themselves as a part of a community in which we all play a part and have a duty to serve. A huge thank you to students and parents for your generous donations. To the students in house Simon for leading the initiative. To all of our form tutors for your hard work in arranging the hampers. To the staff who helped with delivery and logistics and of course to our wonderful carol singers.

  • Headteacher's Christmas Message

Dear parents, As this term draws to a close, we reflect on what has been a remarkable, busy, but hugely successful term. We have opened our new Rome building, held the most successful and best attended Open Evening in the school's history as well as receiving validation from Ofsted that the work of the school is at the highest level. Last week we had a two-day Diocesan Inspection and I look forward to sharing the result of that in the new year. All of these things are milestones for the school, but nothing has brought greater joy than seeing the hard work and happiness of our students across this term as a whole. As we look ahead to the future, it is clear that we are going to be presented with many more challenges, however, we will face these head on and work in the best interest of your child to ensure that we maintain the highest standards of education. At the end of November, the government informed all secondary schools of the requirement to test all students on return to school. Whilst most secondary schools are staggering this testing over a week, I felt that this was not the best or quickest way to get students back into school and learning. Therefore on Tuesday 4th January we are going to test the whole school across the day. Students will arrive and be tested at an allocated time before returning home. They will also have an online English and Maths lesson on this day. Further details can be found here. I want to reassure you that should the government decide to opt for another lockdown, we have already planned an online timetable for every student that is ready to be rolled out in the event of this happening. I'd also like to notify you of a calendar change. As you many know Ofsted were extremely impressed by the school back in October, believing that it may in fact be Outstanding with the promise that they will return some time in the next two years. As a result, and with the agreement of the Governors, I am moving the INSET day scheduled for Monday 11th July to Friday 21st January - this will allow for some planning and preparation time for members of staff. Therefore, students will not be required to attend school on Friday 21st January. I would finally like to wish you a happy and holy Christmas. Yours sincerely, Mr A O'Neill
