'Speaking for Tomorrow' competition at Imperial College London

On Saturday 7th February, a group of our Year 10 students took part in the Speaking for Tomorrow competition at Imperial College London, organised by Sustain Pod. With only two weeks to prepare, students were challenged to research, write and deliver two fully referenced ten-minute speeches addressing key issues surrounding climate change. They then faced rigorous questioning from university-level academics.

Our students chose to focus on how cities around the world can respond to climate change through innovative technologies, as well as exploring the impact of climate change on human health. Their research highlighted creative solutions such as carbon-neutral bricks and kinetic flooring, while also examining the financial barriers that can prevent sustainable projects from progressing.

The judges were highly impressed by the students’ depth of research and engaging delivery, awarding an outstanding score of 38 out of 40 for one of the speeches. Competing against Sixth Form students from across the country, our Year 10 team demonstrated remarkable confidence, resilience and academic maturity.

Although we did not reach the final this year, we are incredibly proud of our students’ achievement and determination — and we look forward to returning next year to compete for the trophy.
