GCSE Drama Students Enjoy a Visit to the Bush Theatre

On Wednesday 4th November, our GCSE Drama students enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Bush Theatre in Shepherd’s Bush to watch a performance of The Bridge, as part of the theatre’s Schools’ Project.

We are delighted to be working with the Bush Theatre through this initiative, which provides schools across West London with complimentary tickets to professional theatre productions, alongside workshops and opportunities to engage with theatre practitioners.

Ahead of the performance, our students took part in a pre-show workshop led by writer and director Esme Allman, giving them a valuable insight into the creative process and helping them explore the themes and ideas behind the production.

The Bridge tells the moving story of Alaa, a young Palestinian travelling from his home in Jenin to Amman, carrying a container of olive oil made from his grandfather’s olive trees. His journey across the Jordan Valley explores powerful themes of family, identity, separation, hope and human connection.

Through its compelling storytelling, the production offered students an opportunity to consider how theatre can communicate complex emotions, explore important social issues and bring personal stories to life on stage.

The experience was particularly valuable for our GCSE Drama students as they prepare for their upcoming performance examinations. Watching professional actors at work allowed them to observe characterisation, staging, dramatic techniques and storytelling, while the workshop encouraged them to think more deeply about how a production develops from page to stage.

A huge thank you to the Bush Theatre for its generosity and commitment to making professional theatre accessible to young people in our local community. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a vibrant arts scene on our doorstep, and opportunities like this are invaluable in inspiring the next generation of performers and theatre enthusiasts.

Our thanks also go to Miss Jeffreys, Head of Drama, for organising such an enriching and memorable experience for our students.
